Nowadays posters are everywhere: they have become an intrinsic part of our daily lives. Health warnings are displayed on bilboards; advertisements for upcoming concerts are plastered on walls; the grinning faces of political canditates are attached to streetlamps come election time; and models promoting the latest fashion collections smile down on busy shoppers in malls.
With the multitude of posters around, it appears hard to find originality nowadays. Yet there is a wealth of international poster design out there, created by professionals and amateurs alike. ‘Poster Design 2′ is a collection of the best original posters around today.
The term ‘Logo’ derives from the Greek logos meaning ‘word’ or ’sign’. This etymology could not be more apt, for the amalgamation of text and image is the very definition of a modern logo. A successful logo must be distinctive, memorable, simple and must represent the given brand appropriately. All great logos around today fulfill these requirements. Everyone can identify the cursive, playul typeface of Coca-Cola set against a red background, designed by Frank Mason Robinson in 1885. The five interlinked circles which represent the Olympic Games are immediately recognisable; Apple Inc.’s stylised, bitten apple is known worldwide and the simple circular design of BMW’s logo is now synonymous with elegance and quality within the automobile market.
There is an incredible depth and quality to logo design today, but there is still plenty of scope for innovative within this field, as our new publication displays. ‘Logo 3′ showcases the best of current international logo design and provides inspirational material for aspiring young designers.
Although most people identify illustration solely with the visual realisation of a text, it can equally be applied to products. Illustration is a broad field and can come in the form of etching, line drawing, intaglio, linocut, woodcut or ink and wash painting.
‘Illustration 2′ collects the best of contemporary illustration. It showcases a wide variety of styles, ranging from more traditional line drawings, to images created and enhanced by computer programmes, thus showing the endless possibilities which technology can offer to the field of illustration.

In the wide field of design, the designing of textiles is regarded as a special discipline. It requires a deeper understanding of the technical side of the production of textiles as well as a specific knowledge of each fabric, of its uses, its properties and characteristics (dyes, fibres and colourings). “New Textile Design” covers the many and various forms of the discipline. It includes clothing, caps, shoes, scarves, bags and appliqués, bedclothes, upholstery and lampshades. Even textile trinkets and other accessories are featured on the following pages.
The collected designs range from central motifs (on t-shirts, for instance) to patterns which often have to compete with the visible structures of the fabric. Additionally, the very form and manner of the presentation can become an interesting part of the work. Thus, we've included everything from sketches to elaborately staged photos.
Motives, patterns, textures - “New Textile Design” covers the whole range of soft goods.
For this new title we've asked designers from all over the world to contribute their latest works, regardless if these are sketches, prototypes or objects already in serial production. Therefore, “NEW PRODUCT DESIGN” is a kaleidoscope of current international design.

But the featured designs are always original. They delight and inspire the viewer.
Despite the individuality of each work, the comprehensive overview provided by Graphic Design 3 on the latest styles in illustration, typography and colour scheme, is a first step towards an understanding of our present era style - the thread that runs through the work of individual artists. In this new series we present contemporary graphic design from different parts of the world.
Even though during the last decades globalization seems to have resulted in the different cultures and societies moving closer together, and although communication and cultural exchange have increased, many regional designs still retain distinctive characteristics.
Scandinavia
Many of the designs from Scandinavia display mainly cold and muted colours. The works exhibit just the kind of aloofness you would expect from northern temper. Compared to the Latin-American designs for instance, they seem rather restrained, but always with an appealing elegance and simplicity. The works display clear and controlled outlines and shapes. Innovation and imagination appear well organized. Most of the designs showcase the sometimes chilly accuracy of the Scandinavian style. This is just another proof that design and art are always influenced by the environment in which they are created.
These particularities have been captured in this compilation of exceptional works from such diverse categories as poster design, advertising, and illustrations.
In this new series we're presenting contemporary graphic design from different parts of the world. The fourth and latest volume in the series is dedicated to Australia and New Zealand. Thanks to the region's proximity to eastern Asia, the predominantly western imagery which most of these designs are firmly rooted in, is enriched by Asian and exotic elements. This combination leads to some rather unexpected and unorthodox results. Thus, "Down Under" is a collection of designs which appear both familiar and strange at the same time.
The third volume of the series is dedicated to an entire continent: Asia. The selected designs originate from regions all over the continent, from Israel in the west to Japan in the far east. They represent an enormous diversity of styles, scripts, forms and visual languages. Recurring motivs are floral images and ornaments, while architecture – a dominating element in so many European designs – is almost absent. Nature, faces, script and myth play an important part in many works. It's a fascinating visual journey!

Not surprisingly, the works from Latin America turn out to be pretty vivid and colourful. There seem to be no inhibitions or restraint – the dominant tones range from buoyant and humorous to downright aggressive and provocative.
Whatever the tone may be, the visual impression is always striking. Apparently, the so-called Latin American lifestyle and climate have left their mark on these designs. This is just another proof that design and art are always influenced by the environment in which they are created.
